The Rossoneri Records
The Rossoneri Records
AC Milan had a massive library of achievements and honors during the course of their history. From San Siro and beyond, the Il Diavolo deserves to be one of the best football clubs of the world.
We take a look at a variety of club records and relevant statistics that the Rossoneri have made since their foundation in 1989.
Player Appearances
Nine hundred and ninety-eight (998) men have worn the red and black strip of AC Milan, which requires a single appearance (starting or substitute) in the first team on an official match (domestic or international) to be counted.
Here are the top four.
- Paolo Maldini
902 appearances from 1984 to 2009, which was a club record. The defender played his entire career with the Rossoneri, hence he had his number 3 retired by the club.
- Franco Baresi
719 matches from 1978 to 1997. The World Cup winner was the club’s longest serving captain, having worn the armband from 1982 up to his retirement in which he lifted eighteen trophies. Number 6 retired by the club.
- Alessandro Costacurta
663 matches from 1986-2007. A teammate of Baresi and Maldini, he spent almost his entire career with the Rossoneri, save for his 1986-87 season where he was loaned to Monza in the Serie C1.
- Gianni Rivera
658 matches from 1960-79. The midfielder became captain at 23, and was instrumental in the first golden period under Nereo Rocco, where he won three Scudetti, three Copa Italia and two European Cups.
Honorable Mention: Clarence Seedorf
Ranked eight with 432 appearances from 2002-12, the Netherlands international played the most matches as a foreign player for Milan.
