Udinese fan banned for racist abuse towards Milan’s Mike Maignan

Udinese will ban a man responsible for racially abusing AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

The Serie A club released a statement on Monday, saying that the ban will take effect immediately.

Udinese identified the heckler with the help of staff and police using security cameras at the Bluenergy Stadium.

“We believe that such strong measures are necessary to send a clear message that racism has no place in football or society.”

“We will continue to work tirelessly in order to identify and punish other individuals who were involved in this incident.”

“Udinese Calcio stands firmly against any form of discrimination and we are determined to create an inclusive and respectful environment within our football community.”

Maignan, along with his AC Milan teammates, walked out of the field after informing the referee of the abuse.

According to Sky Sports, the French goalie said that he heard the alleged monkey chants from the crowd.

The Serie A match resumed after a brief suspension, and AC Milan would score a 3-2 victory over Udinese.

Maignan, 28, previously experienced racial abuse while playing against Juventus two seasons ago.

Months later, Maignan and teammate Fikayo Tomori received racist chants from Cagliari fans.

“I said we cannot play football like this,” Maignan told Sky Sports Italy.

“It is not the first time it has happened this way.”

“They must hand out very strong sanctions, because talking no longer does anything.”

“We have to say that what they are doing is wrong.”

“It is not the whole crowd, most fans want to cheer on their team and jeer you. That’s normal, but not this.”
