Stefano Pioli adds two more years to stay as Milan boss

As a reward in ending a decade-long Scudetto drought, AC Milan and Stefano Pioli agreed to a deal on the first day of November, which will see the latter remain at the San Siro touchlines.

Winning the Serie A became a topic of discussion during the talks to his contract that will run until 2023, but the Rossoneri put the pen to paper their renewed partnership with the Parma native that will extend until 2025.

It was the third extension overall by the 57-year-old, who had been signed to replace the hard-luck Marco Giampaolo to see out the remainder of the 2019-20 season, which was extended until 2022 following their sixth-place finish and a return to European football.

The deal turned out well for both sides, as Pioli made massive strides for Milan as it finished second on its first year, guaranteeing them a place in the Champions League.

Ahead of their final group match of the Champions League at home to Austrian side Salzburg, Pioli said his thoughts, as first noted by the club’s official website.

“Credit goes to everyone. The Club is backing me. I have thanked the players because without them the renewal wouldn’t have been possible. We started on our journey three years ago, now we’d love to get through to the next stage. I feel valued and appreciated. The signal from the Club in giving me a long-term deal is important; it’s expresses a will to continue our work together and make AC Milan even bigger and better. I have made my dreams become a reality, I want it to make it last as long as possible.”

As of the moment, Milan are still in the thick of things in keeping the Scudetto at the San Siro, as they were in third place in the Serie A table just five points behind leaders Napoli.
