The Maignan Incident

The entire AC Milan squad left the field during their Serie A game after Maignan informed the referee of the abuse from Udinese fans.

The French goalkeeper claimed that they were screaming monkey chants.

Musah sheds light

Musah, 21, appeared at a school in New York as part of Milan’s ‘All the Colours of Sport’ initiative to talk about inclusivity and fight against racism.

“Fans always shout something against you, but enough is enough.”

“It had already happened to me at Valencia, and Saturday as well.”

The American midfielder revealed that Maignan wanted to call it a game after receiving “monkey” chants.

Milan stood by Maignan’s side while the game was briefly suspended for about 10 minutes.

“Mike didn’t want to continue, but we remained close to him and didn’t leave him alone.

“These actions must have consequences.”

The Aftermath

Meanwhile, a Serie A sports judge ordered Udinese to play one match behind closed doors.

Italian police later identified the five individuals and received lifetime bans from the club.

“Something must be made and our reaction on the pitch was appropriate. It gave us the certainty that we are a united group.”
