Mike Maignan: Four Udinese fans banned for life after racist abuse

Udinese banned four more fans for life for racially abusing AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan during their Serie A game.

The Serie A club previously handed a lifetime ban to another fan on Monday.

Italian police identified a woman and three other men who racially abused Maignan after analysis of video footage from the stadium.

All four individuals are also banned from Italian stadiums for five years, Italian police announced.

“Udinese can confirm that it has identified four further individuals relating to the incident of discrimination towards AC Milan player Mike Maignan,” the club said in a statement.

“These individuals will also be banned from the Bluenergy Stadium [Stadio Friuli] for life.”

“As has been the case from the very beginning, the club has continued its work alongside the police, reaffirming its absolute determination to punish the culprits as evidence of its concrete commitment against any form of discrimination.”

Maignan, along with his AC Milan teammates, walked out of the field after informing the referee of the abuse.

The French goalie said that he heard monkey chants from the Udinese crowd.

“They are ignorant people,” Maignan said after the game.

The fan comes to the stadium to cheer, maybe to whistle, but these things in football shouldn’t happen.”

Udinese will play one match behind closed doors.
