Genoa 0-1 AC Milan – Giroud in goal and Pulisic’s winning goal
AC Milan moved two points clear at the top of the Serie A 23/24 table after clinching a 1-0 win at Genoa. The away game ended in chaos as both keepers got sent off, and Olivier Giroud was forced to be in goal for the visitors.
Genoa 0-1 AC Milan – Highlights
A late strike by Christian Pulisic earned AC Milan a 1-0 win at promoted Genoa.
The American winger netted in the 87th minute with a half-volley from near the penalty spot as Yunus Musah brilliantly set him up.
But the away fans were sweating when the game turned chaotic as their #1 goalkeeper, Mike Maignan, saw red for a foul on Caleb Ekuban late in the stoppage time. Giroud took the spot in goal and eventually pulled a crucial save before the final whistle.
Genoa thought they had the equalizer, but Albert Gudmundsson crashed a free kick against the bar from the box’ edge, and Giroud denied George Puscas to protect three points safe and sound at Genoa’s soil.

Milan, who earned their seventh win in eight games, moved two points clear at the top of the table after rivals Inter Milan threw away an early two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at home to Bologna earlier on Saturday.
Pulisic and Giroud were excellent.
Pulisic picked Chukwueze at half-time and played a much better game than his Nigerian teammate. He controlled the ball well on the goal before striking it with his weak foot, bagging his second consecutive goal in the league.
The winger now has four goals and an assist in eight league games and has sealed his starting spot with his excellent start to the season, while Chukwueze still needs to make a statement for the spot as he’s still struggling to get going.
Of course, the highlights of the game would be the heroics of Olivier Giroud. To step up and put on the gloves at that moment takes a nerve of steel, and he did it so well, too, with that save at the end. He and Pulisic saved the day for the Rossoneri.
Maignan made a very impressive save before being sent off. That makes it the third clean sheet in a row and 5 out of the last six games with just one goal conceded in that period.
Players rating
Who else but Giroud for the MOTM award at 8/10. The Frenchman made a crucial save that put Milan atop the league table.
Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah also did well at 7/10, with the former scoring the winning and only goal of the game. Musah, meanwhile, worked tirelessly and assisted for Pulisic’s goal.
Mike Maignan, Malick Thiaw, Fikayo Tomori, Tijjani Reijnders, and Rafael Leao were all at 6.5/10. The goalkeeper may have been sent off, but it was not an easy situation, and he saved Milan earlier on with a great save.
Alessandro Florenzi and Davide Calabria passed the test at 6/10, while Theo Hernandez, Yacine Adli, and Samuel Chukwueze didn’t do enough at 5.5/10. The worst, however, were Luka Jovic and Noah Okafor at 5/10.
