De Ketelaere set to join Atalanta
Negotiations have been going on for a while since Atalanta have shown serious interest in the former Club Brugge youngster.
According to Calciomercato.com and Sky Sport Italia, two clubs agreed to the paid loan for one season with an option to buy, with the deal essentially done. La Dea will also pay most of his salary during the loan period.
Fabrizio Romano and more trusted sources claimed that the deal would soon be closed, but De Ketelaere has not accepted since he has had proposals from different countries, including Spain.
Belgium’s midfielder had many other options, including Real Sociedad, Aston Villa, and PSV Eindhoven, but he was determined to make his mark in Serie A.
Deal’s detail
The agreement for De Ketelaere’s €5/6m loan with an option to buy and with the player’s wages fully paid by the Bergamo club. There will be no buy-back options, according to sources.
It was a profoundly disappointing debut campaign without a single goal, missing several significant opportunities, following the massive €35m move from Club Brugge last summer.
De Ketelaere and Milan both hope that he can recover some confidence and form during the loan spell.
