Daniel Maldini
Position: Attacking Midfielder
Age: 20/21 (born October 11, 2001)
Shirt number: 27
Country: Italy (uncapped at senior team)
At AC Milan since: 2020
The Maldini family legacy is alive and truly well at the San Siro, with Daniel joining his father Paolo and grandfather Cesare in wearing the Rossoneri shirt in the first team.
Unlike the elder pair who were known to be defensive stalwarts in the Italian game, the younger Maldini is an attacking-minded player who loves to roam at both wings apart from his preferred support for the forward line.
Internationally, Daniel is eligible for Venezuela apart from Italy for his senior career, but he made a headway to the latter’s set-up, winning seven caps in three youth teams.
He entered AC Milan’s academy in 2010, spending a full decade with the youth system from the Pucini, up to its fabled Primavera side.
On February 2, 2020, Maldini made his senior debut with AC Milan, substituting in stoppage time for Samu Castillejo in a 1-1 draw with Hellas Verona at the San Siro.
He then made his first career start the following season in the Europa League qualifying tie at Rio Ave, playing at center-forward for 67 minutes as the visitors scraped past on the ensuing shootout. He later made another start, this time in their final Group H game as they ran out 1-0 winners away at Sparta Prague.
Daniel then played more minutes in the 2021-22 season, scoring on his first career domestic start in their 2-1 win at Spezia, before making his home debut in the Serie against the same Hellas Verona side when he made his debut two seasons ago. He played eight times in Serie A and became the third generation Maldini to win the Scudetto for the Rossoneri.
